Rita Ora

The latest buzz in the perfume world is the whirlwind success of DKNY’s newest scent, MYNY during the beginning of the year, which is vastly attributed to its chosen endorser.

Rita Ora, the newest face of DKNY’s MYNY allegedly caused the acclaimed company’s sales to rise to a whopping 250%, and even more sales are expected to come in this coming Christmas season. To date, this has been anticipated to be the best selling perfume of DKNY so far.

What makes Rita the new it-girl of the season? During the launch date itself of the fragrance, Rita definitely made heads turn with her plunging neckline bearing sparkling silver quirky dress, paired with platform trainers, which are actually prime items of DKNY as well. Her one-of-a-kind yet highly appealing fashion sense definitely makes her stand out from the crowd and makes her the one to watch out for.

Donna Karan, the 66-year old famous fashion mogul of the fashion line DKNY, defends her winning choice – “If Rita can't sell it, I don't know who can. I think Rita's a great representative of DKNY. She's full of life, she's about what everyone wants to feel - energy. And I find her ageless. She's like this Energizer Bunny who can wear anything from track shoes to stilettos, DKNY to Donna Karan. I love the girl as a person, too. She walks the talk.”

Rita’s Roots

Born on November 26, 1990, the British singer, songwriter and actress actually hailed from Pristina, Kosovo. Rita Sahatciu Ora (Rita’s real name) was given by her parents who Kosovar-Albanian.

Rita’s family moved to the UK while she was still a baby. Growing up near Portobello Road in West London, her early exposure to music and singing came from school, where she attended St. Cuthbert with St. Matthias CE Primary School in Earls Court, and then Sylvia Young Theatre School where her formal training in music had begun. She graduated college from St. Charles Catholic Sixth Form. It was definitely a good thing that her musical ingenuity manifested and was honed at an early age.

Rita’s Musical Career

Craig David’s single Awkward back in 2007 gave Rita her very first taste of fame. This was followed by a guest slot on Where’s Your Love with Tinchy Stryder in 2008.

In 2009, she tried her luck and auditioned in the competition Eurovision: Your Country Needs You, but eventually backed out in the middle of the journey as she felt she wasn’t that ready. Luckily for her though, she has caught the attention of singer songwriter and producer Jay-Z, who eventually signed her to his label, Roc Nation.

But Rita actually disclosed that she turned down this opportunity in order to record Cheryl Cole’s single Call My Name, which didn’t do her much harm. In February 2012, her debut track Hot Right Now featuring DJ Fresh topped the UK charts.

When she released her debut studio album Ora, in 2012, under the tutelage of Will.I.Am, Kanye West and The Dream, it premiered at no. 1 in the UK, and gave birth to top hits How We Do (Party), and R.I.P., which was actually written by Drake and featured Tinie Tempah and produced by drum and bass duo, Chase & Status.

Upon reaching the top position as a featured act on DJ Fresh’s Hot Right Now, Rita eventually became the artist with the most no. 1 singles on the UK Singles Chart in 2012, with three consecutive singles reaching the number one post.

In her young age, Rita has also already been nominated thrice at the 2013 BRIT Awards. In 2014, her second album’s first single entitled I Will Never Let You Down eventually rose up the ranks to the top at the UK Singles Chart, making Rita Ora the second British solo female artist to gain four UK number ones, only after ex-Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.

Rita’s Influence

She escalated to fame, started getting nominations here and there, but still remained true to her colours. This is why people admire her. Also worth noting is her fashion sense, which is simply unique and outstanding. She’s never afraid to be herself, yet she remains elegant and not over-the-top and too attention-seeking. She has been deemed perfect as the new face of DKNY’s fragrance, this choice of which has been validated as the sales sky rocketed.

The perfume itself is indeed very Rita Ora-ish, as it is housed in a quaint heart-shaped bottle with a skyline-inspired cap. The fragrance is said to have a heavenly combination of raspberries, pink pepper, galbanum, pink pepper, freesia, Egyptian jasmine, orris root, musk, vanilla, patchouli, and ambergris, as its top notes.
